Stark's Glenn Title

The creative work of Glenn Stark

This beautiful eagle and rattlesnake were carved from a single piece of walnut. The base is about 3 feet across. Each wing is carved from a separate branch of the tree which forked at that point. Glenn "saw" the eagle in a tree, so he bought the tree, cut it down, and carved the eagle and snake from it. Perhaps part of being artistic is the ability to see such details in the wood before it is carved; to look at a forked tree stump - and see an eagle about to make a meal of a snake.

Here's the view of the whole carving.

And one final look. This one is just too beautiful to not get a really-good look.

Here's "Honest Glenn" with a full-size "Honest Abe". After he "went bust" on Abe - he then did the "complete man" in cottonwood.

Hagar the Horrible guards Glenn's mailbox. He was constructed just last year (2000) of concrete and mesh over a steel frame that Paul Handkins welded to Glenn's specs. That's Paul & Glenn "standing behind their work".

Note "Kvack" - Helga's duck - on Hagar's shield, as well as the full-size concrete bear and a tiny glimpse of a concrete prairie dog behind them.
